After School and Physical Activity

Research shows that daily physical activity drastically improves a student’s success. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Adolescent and School Health conducted several studies on this topic in 2010. “Overall, 11 of 14 studies found one or more positive associations between physical education and indicators of cognitive skills and attitudes, academic behaviors, and/or academic achievement” (CDC, pg 29). There are countless numbers of articles written and studies done that prove how important physical education is to young, developing students. This is not anything new to the academic world and the world of after school programs. The majority of after school programs these days revolve around sports and physical activity. There are so many options for students to get involved after school to improve their overall successes.
