part 5/12

Our new science center will open for classes in Spring 2010! We can already start taking “hard hat” tours, which is really exciting!

The new building will include an auditorium for presentations, a wet/dry fossil museum and rooftop terraces for receptions! There will be brand new classrooms and laboratories too, of course. :)  The new science center will house all of our biology and chemistry programs, which is perfect timing for anyone going into Health Professions: http://spinner.cofc.edu/~healthprof/ and Marine Biology: http://spinner.cofc.edu/biology/!

College of Charleston was one of the first schools to have Discovery Informatics as an undergraduate program. Discovery Informatics is the study of computer data analysis, so if you are interested in Math, Computer Science or Statistics, this would be the perfect program for you! More information about that program is available here: http://discovery.cofc.edu/ . The director of the program is Dr. Chris Starr, who is honestly one of the most energizing and exciting people that I have ever met! If I went back for another bachelor’s degree, it would definitely be in something related to Computer Science. This man makes you want to study it, plus, you work with robots in one of your first classes! How cool is that? :)

We have always had strong science programs, but now we have an even better facility for them! Come check out the progress sometime on a campus tour or at an Open House http://www.cofc.edu/admissions/explorethecollege/campusvisits/index.php . We hope to see you soon!
