part 5/12

I had always heard about how wonderful and awe-inspiring Avery was, but to actually visit made me feel like a kid in a candy store. The Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture at the College of Charleston was established in 1985. The Center maintains an archive of primary and secondary source material of nearly 4,000 holdings that encourage scholarship, research, and presentations by scholars, researchers, and students. The Center also operates as a small museum, a national historic site with a listing on the National Register of Historic Sites, and a cultural center. Anyone who is doing any major research on African American History has their starting point here in Charleston and more specifically the Avery Research Center. When visiting campus please make Avery one of your stops! Check out their calendar for upcoming events.
