Thinking about NCATE Standard 1: Candidate knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions
Some questions for reflection on our courses and candidate learning:
- How well do candidates know the content that they plan to teach?
- Can they explain important principles and concepts found in standards?
- Do they understand the relationship between content and content-specific pedagogy?
- Can they access numerous content strategies to help all students learn?
- Can candidates present content clearly and meaningfully? using technology?
- Can our candidates explain the strategy choices they make?
- Are candidates able to consider school, family, and community to create learning experiences?
- Can our candidates reflect on their practice and identify their strengths and weaknesses?
- Do our candidates plan learning experiences that consider developmental level and prior experiences?
- Do our candidates use data and research to inform practice? Use technology to enhance student learning?
- Do candidates exhibit fairness and the belief that all students can learn both in the classroom and in work with families, colleagues, and the community?
