Posted by: Erin Blevins | January 28, 2018 | No Comment |

Sarah Owens, Professor of Spanish, became the new Director of the First Year Experience in January 2018.  In 2000, after receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in Colonial Latin American Literature, Dr. Owens became a faculty member here at the College of Charleston.   She looks forward to being a part of a program that is already successful and is excited to help shape students’ experiences from day one at the College.

Dr. Owens has led College of Charleston study abroad programs to Spain, Chile, and Cuba.  Her research has taken her to the archives of Mexico, Spain, Chile, Peru, and the Vatican. She has published three books on the topic of colonial nuns and women from the Iberian Peninsula. She enjoys teaching courses on literature, gender, travel, and culture of Latin America and Spain.
