Events

Fall 2009

*Welcome Week Scavenger Hunt
Food! Fun! Prizes!  Teams of 3-5 will receive clues at 2pm and will have until 4 to complete their list.  The team with the most points wins.  Come out and meet the AAST faculty and make some new friends.   Refreshments will be served.

Time: 2-5pm
Place: Stern Center Ballroom 


 *AAST Trivia Night
More Food! Fun! Prizes!  Teams of 3-5 will compete by answering questions on a wide range of topics, including history, litearture, music, science, pop culture, sports, and more.

Date: Sept. 15th
Time: 7-9pm
Place: Alumni Center, School of Education Building 



 *African American Studies Film Series
Please join us as we view and discuss the films based of African American literary classics:

  • October 15th–Color Purple
  • November 12th–Raisin in the Sun

Location: Admissions Auditorium, Robert Scott Smalls Bldg.
Time: Films begin at 7pm


 
*AAST Faculty Research Series
Join us for this series that highlights the current research projects of the AAST faculty.

 *Book Discussion Series
Bring your lunch and join us for an informal discussion of two African American classics.

  • October 14th–Color Purple by Alice Walker
  • November 11th–Go Tell It On the Mountain by James Baldwin

*Activism Forum
Students from the Introduction to African American Studies course will present their activism projects–projects designed to put the ideas and theories of the ideas and theories of the course into practive.
